Bruern played hosts this week to New College School. Though we did not have the privilege to play on their lovely ground, we were truly blessed with the best day of term thus far (weather wise). The school grounds were picture perfect with a cricket match being played in front of the house and athletics being practiced in the background!
Captain for the day Olly F won the toss and elected to field. He had hatched a cunning plan with the vice captain for the day Teddy C-F. Teddy C-Fand Theo R opened the bowling and immediately exerted pressure as both bowled tidily. Theo R made the first breakthrough with his fifth ball, clean bowling the opener. Olly F then replaced Teddy C-F and continued the good work, he led from the front bowling a lovely spell of 4 overs taking 2 wickets for only 10 runs. He bowled in tandem with Rudy C who bowled yet another great spell of 4 overs for only 13 runs and taking 1 wicket. Ralph W then took over and bowled another tight spell. They were backed up by some really great fielding and lots of collective energy. New College ended their innings on 76 for 8 wickets.
Xavier L and Jack W opened the batting and were positive from the start against some good bowling. However both openers fell when the score was 13. Rudy C had been promoted as he was going to a wedding and, along with Chris E, proceeded to put on a scintillating partnership of 57 runs. Chris E was particularly pugnacious and hit the ball with gusto. To our surprise Chris E was caught and Rudy C had to retire. It was left to Maxim Hand Matthew E to see us home using up only 12 of the 20 overs to get the required runs. It was a lovely game played in great spirits and congrats to the boys for their first home win!
