Cricket: 2nd XI vs The Oratory School

In their penultimate match, Bruern 2nd XI travelled to the lovely surroundings of The Oratory School. Captain Theo R won the toss and decided to bowl sensing the gathering clouds would create some movement in the air. Opening the bowling with Monte F (making his debut for the 2nds) Theo R's instincts proved correct as he and Monte F took 4 wickets between them. The support bowlers bowled well but a 40 run partnership between the Oratory 4 and 5 seemed like they were taking the game away from them. Monte F returned to take the vital wicket of the no.4 batsman (Oratory's top scorer) with a lovely caught and bowled. George R then took over with some superbly accurate bowling culminating in a brilliant 2 wicket maiden over. Bruern wrestled back control and bowled Oratory all out for 106.
Maxim H and Charlie R opened the batting determined to set a good base and chase down the runs. Maxim H unfortunately fell in the first over (best laid plans and all that!) to introduce Jago B to the game at no.3 (also making his debut). What followed was a period of beautiful batting. Jago B looked classy and smooth, picking off singles and rotating the strike. Charlie R was all fire and brimstone, striking the ball hard all over the ground. Unexpectedly, Jago B fell with 30 runs still needed and Chris E then took to the crease. Both Chris E and Charlie R saw Bruern to the finishing line with 3 overs to spare. Charlie R finished on 49 not out! Bruern won by a convincing 8 wickets and their successful season continues!
Well done boys!
