As a relative part timer, I had the pleasure of standing as an umpire for the Colts A and I must say I was very impressed with what I saw. Bruern took to the field against a strong Beachborough side and bowled and fielded with great aplomb. At this age and stage focussing for 20 overs of fielding is a challenge but the boys kept on task and charmingly supported each other throughout. The bowling was a real team effort too. 10 bowlers were used, and 8 wickets were pretty evenly shared. Highlights included Alex McK and Max T taking wickets on their first ball of their spells, but the plaudits went to Tom S who managed two caught and bowled wickets and a direct hit run out from square leg. Pity any boy who tries to take a single to that fielding arm.
It was however a game of two halves, some pacey Beachborough bowlers extracted some varied bounce and unnerved our batsmen. Dante K batted in bravely after a knock to the arm and Nico H held a good rearguard for a while, but Beachborough’s bowlers definitely had Bruern putty in their hands.
Decorum and behaviour was top notch in both sides and with a happy tea parents and boys could head home with great pride on all sides. Well done to Mr Bryant and all his team.
Mr Floyd
