Cricket: Colts B v Beachborough

On Wednesday afternoon The Colts B’s headed to Beachborough for the final match of the season. It was a hard ball T20 and with rain due, we elected to bowl first. Beachborough got off to a rapid start and both their opening batsmen batted extremely well and had to retire on 30 runs. Captain of the day Pierce G took the first wicket of the match and set an example as the leader of the team. Maxwell L and Edward W followed this up by picking up a wicket each before Will P took 2 wickets in his final over. Despite some impressive bowling Beachborough had a lot of runs on the board and we all knew we needed something special to get a result.

After match tea, we were back out in the middle. Conditions were tough and Beachborough’s openers were strong. We lost some quick wickets before Arki T came in and steadied the ship. He top scored for Bruern and surprised us all by actually hitting 5 runs off of one ball!! Despite our oppositions tight bowling Bruern kept chipping away at the target. With a great little cameo from James P, we reached 100 runs all out and came up just short against an experienced opposition.

Despite us finishing the season with a loss, anyone that was there watching the game will agree with me when I say that was the best game of cricket, I have seen that group of boys' play. As a team, we fielded well, took wickets, and most impressively scored 100 runs as a team for the first time this season. For a group of boys that had barely played hard ball cricket before the start of this term, that is an incredible achievement. I am very proud of each and every one of the boys and they all played their part in the game yesterday.

I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this group of lads. Well done this season and thank you for making it so enjoyable! Have a great summer!
