On a hot and humid day and with the Upper Sixth on their trip, the Lower Sixth took to the road to the lovely setting of New College School in the centre of Oxford. The boys were lucky enough to play on the main pitch.
Captain Bruno T lost the toss and Bruern were asked to bat first. In the wake of "Bazball" The message to the team was to be positive and take the opportunity to score runs on a fast outfield. The boys showed positive intent but alas their running was not so. 4 avoidable run outs halted the boys positive momentum. Luckily, Max M (aka Beckham circa long hair and headband) showed his classiness as a batsman and with some lovely shots saw Bruern post a competitive score of 76.
With the bowling Bruern had, the boys were confident they could defend that total. What followed was a thoroughly enjoyable showcase of teamwork, togetherness, and joy! The boys fielded and bowled brilliantly, putting the New College batsman under constant pressure. Max M bowled a devastating spell of leg spin and was unlucky to get no wickets. Reports of his spell have been sent to HQ as they're looking for a spinner next Wednesday! Max M was ably supported by Olly F and Bruno T. The real highlight was a wonderful spell of bowling from Rupert N. He bowled with hostility and pace culminating in a blistering 2 wicket maiden over (think Freddie Flintoff - 2nd Innings Edgbaston 2005). New College eventually crept over the line with 7 balls to spare but it was a stunning fielding performance and one that even the usually dour Mr V got animated about!
Well done boys you really did yourselves proud!
