Bruern hosted Ashfold school on a warm and cloudy day with the promise of sunshine lurking behind each grey cloud! Jack W made his debut as captain for the day and his tenure began auspiciously when he won the toss and inserted the opposition. Will B and George R opened the bowling and quickly made inroads into the Ashfold top order with some accurate and fiery bowling.
The boys were determined to put in a better fielding and bowling performance than last week and it was an excellent all round display with the wickets being shared out between James R, Louis S and Luka M. We were a bit wayward at times and wides certainly contributed to the score, but it was an excellent team display culminating in George R fielding off his own bowling and running out the batsman on the last ball of the innings. Ashfold 83 for 8.
A new look batting order then set about chasing the total with Matthew M and Matthew E opening the innings as well as making their debuts. These two started brightly with a quick partnership of 15. Jago B then came to the crease and looked assured and calm before being run out through a mix up. With the sudden appearance of rain drops there was now an urgency to the run chase. Archer F fell to an excellent ball leaving Jack W and Rudy C-S to chase down the last 40 runs. They did this with great ease and Bruern were able to beat the rain and win the game by 6 wickets.
Well done boys! An excellent effort and I look forward to next week!
