Cross Country

On Monday we travelled to The Oratory Prep School to compete in what was our final race of the year. Conditions were tough due to the amount of rain we have experienced recently. Nevertheless, it was a great success!

The juniors were up first and raced around a 1.97km course. First back again for the juniors was Felix P, who finished an amazing 14th. Felix P was closely followed by Orlando H who finished 20th and ran a very strong race on his return to the team. Francis F again battled hard against the older boys and finished 21st and was the first year 5 back from Bruern. Will W, Josh O-H, Jack P and Eddie H all ran extremely well and completed an impressive team performance for Bruern.

Whilst the juniors were warming up and tucking into their hot dogs, the seniors set off on their 2.72km course. There was barely anything to separate our top 5 seniors as they all finished very close to each other. Tom E (21st), Narayan B (22nd), Jack B (23rd), Hugo B (24th) and William B (26th). However although boys run their own race, cross country is a team sport and we were relying on our final 2 runners to put in a shift to get over the line. They both did just that. James R came in an impressive 30th and was followed by Tom S, who despite having a nose bleed and slight injury, refused to give up and got over the like in a more than respectable 39th. Well done to Hugo B, James R and Tom E who are all year 7s and were running against older boys.

It has been another great season for the cross-country team and I am very sad to say goodbye to some of our main runners who have given so much to the school over their time at Bruern. Thank you to, Narayan B, Jago B, Tom S, Will B, Jack B, Frank J and Alex DB who have all been regulars on the team over the years. You have all been a real credit to the school and I wish you the best of luck with any cross country you do in the future.

Finally, a thank you again to Miss Munns, Mr Burns and Mr Cowie, who have all assisted me at a race at some point this season. Have a lovely weekend all.

Mr Barrett
