This week we played host to Ashfold School. After the defeat last week against Abingdon Prep, the boys were keen to get back to winning ways.
The match started at a rapid pace as both teams knew how important the first goal could be. Bruern had a couple of early chances but unfortunately couldn’t get the ball into the net, Ashfold grew in confidence and seemed to get stronger as each Bruern chance came and went. Eventually the pressure told and Bruern fell behind to a well worked goal. The score was quickly 3-0 and the boys were grateful for the half time whistle.
For those of you who don’t attend our fixtures regularly, you might be mistaken to think that by praising the half time team talks, I am merely stroking my ego. Truth be told, I don’t get a say in as the boys as some of the harshest critics on themselves you will find, that said they do talk sense and more often than not find a way to haul themselves into a match. True to form that is exactly what they did this week, some clinical attacking plays saw us get two quick fire goals and all of a sudden, the boys were in the ascendancy and but for some fantastic saves in the opposition goal would have been level. Sadly, we couldn’t quite get over the line of a superb come back, however the boys certainly discovered more about themselves in defeat that they would have in victory. The resilience, the fight, and the pride they had was impressive and commendable. Keep working hard and the wins will come boys.
